Education

DJCT operates under the belief that education is a right, not a privilege. Respecting and improving the rights of children is the primary goal of this organization. Therefore, DJCT aims to provide non-formal education for needy children and adults in a loving and encouraging atmosphere. Our goal is to 1) get these children enrolled in our education program and in government school; 2) improves their skill up to the appropriate level for their class in the government school, and; 3) increase their skills and knowledge up to the levels and expectations for their class in private schools. Beyond education, we also strive to improve the overall well-being of needy children in the community by meeting their basic health needs and encouraging them to engage in extra-curricular activities which invite them to explore and develop their creativity. Ultimately, we hope that the students of DJCT will be empowered by our programs and be inspired to achieve more and be more in their lives. Our long-term goal is to encourage more social reformers who can lead initiatives to affect social, political and economic change for their communities.

Timetable/ schedule

We have divided the students into two groups based on their class in the Government school. Students up to 5th class (grade) are in group ‘A’ and students in 6th to 8th class (grade) are in group ‘B’. We offer education sessions twice a day, in the morning and evening, before and after the Government school. Children are required to attend both before and after school sessions, because math is taught during the morning session and English in the afternoon.

Day Class:

At 2 pm we have day class for the girls in 11th & 12th class (grade) that lasts for one and a half hours. The girls come to the project to learn sewing skills and English, and we currently have 9 girls attending this class.

Night Class:

We have a night English class for the boys in 9th & 10th class (grade) at 7 pm that lasts for one and a half hours. We currently have 8 boys attending this class.

Extra-curricular activities:

We think that it is very important for the students to have a variety of skills and to learn things beyond the basics of math and English. We started a General Knowledge class once a week in order to broaden their knowledge on a variety of subjects. The students found the class to be interesting and fun as they learned new things. We also encourage creativity in our students with drawing class, painting, and dance competitions. We celebrated Teacher’s Day and Student’s Day with our students, and our students enjoyed the events. We also hosted celebrations for Independence Day, Republic Day, and other important holidays for all the parents and children in the community.
