Sanitation

We are happy to report that the toilets built on Deep Jyoti’s campus in March 2012 are still in great shape and have been very effective this financial year. These facilities continue to meet the hygiene needs of our students. The toilets are used regularly, and this reliable access to clean facilities has had a positive impact on their hygiene habits both on campus and at home. This ongoing usage highlights the importance of maintaining high sanitation standards to support health and well-being in our community. The excellent condition of these facilities demonstrates our dedication to providing a clean and safe environment for everyone.

Second, we are very excited to report the completion of a large community toilet block serving citizens of our Supaul District. Last year, we decided to increase our focus on sanitation, and received a private donation to support a toilet construction project to serve the community at large. In the financial year 2012-13, we purchased the land to build community toilet in Nimua village of Ramdattpatti Panchayat of Supaul District; a neighboring village where toilets were very much needed. This year we completed a unique community toilet, which is divided into two halves with 8 toilet units for Gents on one side, and 8 toilets for Women on the other side. A big biogas digester was constructed at the back end of the facility. Human waste goes to the digester directly and Methane Gas comes out from Digester through a pipeline and it works to run the generator to produce the electricity. We opened this facility this year and had 286 users in very first day- men, women, and children. Nimua’s road used to be very dirty with human waste, but now after just one week about 600-700 people are using the toilets everyday, all of the roads of this village seems clean and nice, and health benefits are sure to come.
