Last year, several of our volunteers approached us with a desire to help our organization start a women’s empowerment group focused on sewing. This year we brought the women’s group to life. A group of 15 women come to Deep Jyoti’s campus daily from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. During that time some of them learn sewing, some learn English, and some are learning computer skills. We have a special English class with 12 girls and computer training with 6 women. The women are very interested in sewing and come to use the machines often to make clothes and other things. This year we hired a stitching expert to teach a class on sewing to the women. Due to high demand, we purchased two more sewing machines to accommodate more women and expand the group. We currently have 4 sewing machines and they are put to good use daily.
